Stuck on a Truck

Toad Suck, a Truck and Dedication

I moved on Conway, AR three years ago. I like it so far.  Small town with advantages of a bigger, more progressive town. We are blessed to have three colleges giving us a lot of benefits from athletics to orchestras, plays and the appearance of nationally known thinkers and performers.

Conway is also the home of one of the fastest growing technology based areas in the state and even the country. We have been given that distinction anyway.

But, it’s important to remember that we are still a small town.

That’s right, we are small. Well, we are 60,000 people small. We used to be much smaller so there are lingering small advantages.

Once such advantage is Toad Suck Daze. That’s right, Toad Suck Daze. The town known most for Kris Allen, Peyton Hillis, and Bryce Molder and so many others is the home of Toad Suck Daze. Toad Suck is not even in Conway!

Yes, there is a place called Toad Suck.

Tales from Toad Suck
Tales from Toad Suck, yes there is a Toad Suck

Toad Suck is a festival or a carnival or whatever you want to call it. It means that hundreds of vendors set up in downtown Conway and sell craft, art and food.  Lot’s of food!

It pumps a lot of money into the city and helps raise money for college scholarships for local students. There are rides and music also.

One of the biggest draws is the famous Toad Suck Stuck on a Truck. This is when 25 of the craziest people agree to keep a hand on a truck for as long as they can for a chance to win the truck.

What would you do for a new pickup truck? Well, there are plenty of people here who will “stick” themselves to that truck.

That got me to thinking about dedication.  What would you do to accomplish something?

Last night as I was watching, don’t laugh, Impact Wrestling, one the wrestlers explained his fire and dedication to the other wrestler by saying, “I am the guy who busted a beer bottle over my best friend’s head to win the world championship.”

I guess there is good dedication and there is, bad dedication, and, I guess, crazy dedication. There is the dedication that is full of hard work and perseverance and there is the dedication that leads to short cuts.

Which kind of dedication do you have?

Which kind of dedication do I have?

Do I have the dedication?
